At a glance

Welcome to the Strategic AI Lab (SAIL)! SAIL is the venture innovation and commercialization engine of the Harvard Aerospace & Defense Alumni Organization (HADAO).

We unite Harvard alumni, researchers, industry partners, and government stakeholders to translate frontier research into deployable technologies and venture-backed companies across AI, autonomy, robotics, satellite systems, digital simulation, and intelligent mobility.

Through a structured venture-studio model, SAIL develops prototypes, validates solutions with real-world partners, and launches new enterprises addressing security, resilience, climate monitoring, space systems, and future mobility on Earth and beyond the stratosphere.

Areas of focus

Discover

The exciting opportunities of our five strategic focus areas represents a portfolio of high-impact projects that public donations directly support—from prototype development to real-world deployment.

🚀 Space & Mobility AI Systems

SAIL develops autonomous mission AI that enables safe, intelligent movement of spacecraft, satellites, high-altitude platforms, and mobile ground systems—optimizing navigation, sensor fusion, cybersecurity, propulsion efficiency, and real-time mission coordination across Earth, air, orbit, and deep space.

🛰 Satellite & Mobility Analytics

SAIL transforms satellite data into AI platforms that support global mobility systems—enabling climate monitoring, route optimization, infrastructure tracking, disaster mobility mapping, food-supply logistics forecasting, and geospatial intelligence to keep people, goods, and services moving safely worldwide.

🏗 Aerospace Platforms, Habitats & Materials

SAIL develops advanced aerospace-derived platforms, mobile habitats, propulsion systems, lightweight materials, and extreme-environment structures enabling safe human and robotic mobility across land, aerospace, orbital operations, and future off-world settlements.

🤖 Robotics, Autonomy & Swarm Mobility

SAIL builds mobile robotic platforms, autonomous vehicles, and coordinated swarm systems for aerial, terrestrial, maritime, and space operations—powering inspection, exploration, mission mobility and logistics, disaster response, and hazardous-environment mobility where human movement is limited or unsafe.

🧩 Simulation and Digital Twins

SAIL develops digital twin simulations of spacecraft, cities, transportation networks, emergency evacuations, and habitat operations—allowing leaders to model, test, and optimize mobility flows, infrastructure resilience, and large-scale movement before real-world deployment.

Our goal

SAIL exists to translate breakthrough aerospace research into deployable mobility, autonomy, and mission systems operating across Earth, orbit, and deep space. Through venture creation and industry partnerships, SAIL builds intelligent aerospace platforms that support civil and defense missions, strengthening security, resilience, and human capability on and beyond our home planet.

Why give with us?

Fund Breakthrough Innovation

Donations power the development of mission-grade mobility, autonomy, satellite intelligence, and deep-space systems that strengthen global security, resilience, and human capability. Every contribution accelerates prototypes, venture creation, and deployed technologies

Build the Next Generation of Human Mobility

Your support advances solutions operating across Earth, orbit, and deep space — from robotic platforms and mission AI to digital twins, habitat systems, propulsion materials, and resilient mobility infrastructure. Donors directly enable technologies that expand how people, goods, data, and missions move through the most extreme environments.

Power Global Mission Collaboration

Your support enables convenings, active pilots, and international partnerships linking academia, government, industry, and capital — creating the rare environments where aerospace innovations move from the lab into real-world operations that strengthen mobility, security, and planetary exploration.
